Joshua's Christmas Program- better late than never :)
We had a fun night at Josh's school Christmas program. He did a great job and showed a lot of enthusiasm with the songs and hand motions. After the concert we were able to post with some fun backdrops for family pictures.

An oldie but a goody
My brother was going through some old camera cards and he came across this picture of my grandma Jane holding Joshua at Joshua's first Christmas Eve celebration at my grandparents house.
Grandma has been home with Jesus almost a year now. She is missed!

Joshua at 5 years old!
Joshua turned five on October 12. In the craziness of life, I failed to post anything about his birthday. Better late than never!
Joshua is a complex mix of sweet and tender and tough and aggressive! He is nothing like his big brother, Will, which is good! It keeps life interesting around here! He is a lot bolder and more adventurous. He is a joy to have around (most of the time) and it is super sweet when his tender, affectionate side comes out.
Josh is currently in afternoon Pre-k at Oklahoma Christian School and enjoys going every day and interacting with a his friends and his cousin, Quinlyn, who is also in that class. His teachers are Mrs. Weber and Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Weber was Kent's kindergarten teacher. Josh finds that very interesting and will sometimes ask Kent if he sang such and such song or did such and such activity when he had Mrs. Weber as his teacher. Josh loves OCS and likes going to the same school as his big brother, Will.
He always wears his KD shoes and a different basketball jersey. It is fun to see him get so excited about the practices and games.
Josh is really into cooking! We started watching Master Chef Junior and since then, he is into making up new recipes and plating the food and serving it to us. Sometimes the combinations aren't too appealing (eggs, sugar, salt, butter) but I always try to take one bite :)
Josh is our child who doesn't just want to sit and watch something on TV like basketball, hockey, gymnastics, cooking, etc. He will watch for a view minutes but then gets up and starts doing whatever he was just watching on TV. This happens all the time! It always makes me smile!
Back in the fall, Josh decided he wanted to play hockey. I think part of this came from watching hockey on the winter olympics last year and going to a couple OKC Barons hockey games. We signed him up for intro to skate at a local ice rink. The first couple of times were very painful for me to watch as he feel countless times. Each time though, he got right back up and was determined to learn to play hockey. His determination truly was admirable. He is one tough child and once he sets his mind to it, he does it! At the 5th or 6th lesson, he was getting a little better and was about halfway through the lesson when he reached to grab the rink wall and his feet slipped out from under him and his chin hit the ice before his hands. He ended up with 8 stitches and (which he called whiskers) and a story of how he hurt himself at "hockey" practice. Needless to say, that was his last time on the ice. I'm not sure if hockey will or won't be in his future but for this mama, it was time to take a break and decide if that is something we want to pursue more in the future and if so, with some type of helmet with a chin guard.
Right around Josh's birthday, he learned to ride his bike without training wheels! He was so very proud of himself and we were excited to enter into this new phase of his childhood. He is a natural at it and loves to ride with Kent and Will.
We celebrated Josh's birthday by having a fall themed dress up party with his friends and cousins. It was a lot of fun and the piñata was a hit!
Josh has an adventurous spirit and a can -do attitude. He made his mind up last February when the new YMCA opened that he was going to swim the length of the pool and get the wrist band needed to not have to wear a life jacket. He promptly jumped in and sank to the bottom. We couldn't believe that he even tried! We were so proud of his determined attitude and learned then and there that when he sets his mind to something, he will try it! He proceeded to try the swim test a couple more times of the summer month and every time, would fail to swim the 25 yards required to get the wrist band. Finally, last fall around his birthday, he said he wanted to try it again. I really thought there was no way based on his current swimming ability but he jumped in and swam/doggy paddled the whole length of the pool and was even able to tread water for 10 seconds! I couldn't believe it! He was so proud to finally get his pink wrist band and I was one proud mama….not just by the fact that he accomplished his goal, but that he made his mind up and kept going until he reached his goal!

Joshua Cracks Me Up
#1. Joshua: can Whitley take a nap?
Me: no, she already took one.
Joshua: Can she take another one she is getting in my stuff!
#2. The boys like One Direction but Josh doesn't call them One Direction, he calls them the "that's what makes you beautiful guys."
I love the thoughts of an almost 5 year old!
First Day of School Pics
I'm a little bit behind :) Will started second grade with Mrs. Easterly at Oklahoma Christian School. Joshua started Pre-K at OCS with Mrs. Weber who happens to have been Kent's kindergarten teacher :) We are excited about a great school year!

Josh's Social Life: Part 2
Josh: What are we going to do when Lehigh comes over?
Me: When is Lehigh coming over?
Josh: Tuesday
Me: Today is Tuesday.
Josh: Yes, Lehigh is coming over. I planned it.
Me: You have to ask the Mommy's before you invite people over.

Josh's Social Life
Josh is becoming quite the social planner. Over the last couple of weeks, he has told me on numerous occasions that he invited a friend either over for a playdate or to his upcoming birthday party. Yesterday he came home from school and told me that he invited Reese over to our house and to his party. Side note... She is the cutest thing you have ever seen :) Today I picked him up from BSF and another little boy was yelling his mom's phone number repeatedly to Josh as Josh left the classroom. Josh then told me that now that he had his friends mom's number, I needed to call her. I told him that I needed to meet her first :) Tonight Josh came home from soccer practice and informed me that he invited his little team mate over. Someday a little friend might just show up at our front door!

Thunderbirds
We went to the air show at Tinker Air Force Base last weekend with our friends, Ryan and Lori Veirs and their boys, Karsten and Kade. It was our second time to see the Thunderbirds but Josh's first time since he was a baby last time they came. The show is unbelievable! Seriously….it is one of my favorite things! I LOVE watching them perform! It was a fun outing with friends!

Fun on the Lake
We recently went boating with some friends and had a great time! It had been two years since the last time we were out in a boat and it was Whitley's first time. She handled the life jacket better than I thought she would but she still didn't love having it on. She only wanted to be held by me so it was kind of a tiring ordeal but definitely worth it!
The boys each tubed and LOVED it! Will and his friend, Mason, held on for dear life and handled all the bumps and turns like pros.
I was able to ski and that was a lot of fun! I grew up skiing so it was fun to get in there and have it come back so easily. After I skied, Josh announce that he wanted to do it too. Kent hopped in the water and Josh hopped in and put on the skis and on his third attempt, he did it! It was very impressive and as you can see in the top picture, Kent pumped his arm out of the water in excitement! Such a fun parenting moment watching him learn something new and with such determination!
Of course, Will then decided that he too wanted to learn to ski so once Josh was finished, Will hopped in and also got up on his third try. He didn't go as far as Josh distance wise but he was able to get up twice and now both boys can say that they skied! So fun and such great memories! I didn't realize we would be doing so much in our few short hours on the lake!

Joshua's Easter party 2014
Whitley and I went to Josh's school for his Easter party and Whitley had the best time. She is very social and made herself at home in the classroom. It was a lot of fun to watch her "talk" to Josh's friends and crawl around everywhere. I have a feeling she is going to be very social :)

Go Thunder!
Josh loves the Thunder! It is so cute….instead of saying OKC, he says, " oh say key." So cute! He also prays for #5 on the Thunder to feel better. Sweet boy!

I Want to be like Kevin Durant
Both boys are currently playing YMCA basketball. Kent is coaching Josh's team along with our dear friend, Seth Brown. Josh is excited to be playing with his best friend, Owen Brown. Watching them is so much fun! I am so glad that Kent decided to coach the team. I know Josh will remember that forever!

Sweetness!
Last Sunday at church, Josh's teacher approached Kent and made a point to tell him that Josh was a really sweet boy! She went on to tell Kent that Josh had noticed a new boy in the class that wasn't adjusting well and he went over to him and sat next to him and started to play with him.
Comments like this mean a lot to us. Josh is rougher than Will by far and tends to have some anger issues. It is a good reminder to hear that he truly is sweet natured and caring towards others. We are blessed and thankful for the heart that God has given Josh and it is our desire that we will receive more comments like this in the future as we work with Josh to choose joy and peace over anger.

Catching Up!
Wow! It's been 2 months since my last post. I guess that shows how crazy life has been with Thanksgiving, Christmas, hosting my parents, traveling to Indiana for Christmas, school programs, school parties, church program, present buying, present wrapping, Christmas card addressing….you get the picture! Having a third child (who doesn't like to sleep well at night) has made things a little more challenging but we are adapting and taking it one day at a time :)
Instead of putting pictures from everything I have neglected to post over the last two months, I thought I would give you the highlights.
