Joshua Swim Lessons

Joshua took a week of swim lessons from the same lady who taught Will how to swim.  She teaches group lessons in her backyard and is really GREAT at it!  The big difference between Will and Josh is that it took Will three summers to learn to swim....Josh learned the first day!  This wasn't his first experience with swim lessons. He took two sessions at the YMCA in the winter but I had no idea he had learned to swim!  It blew me away!  Maybe he will take after his mama and swim for the Wheaton Thunder!

Goggles and caps

This week the olympic swimming trials are taking place in Omaha, Nebraska.  As most of you know, I was a swimmer my whole life so I am super excited about the trials being on TV every night this week. I am also excited about the fact that they are airing on a major network so we can watch them since we no longer have cable or a DVR.  Anyways, back to my point :)

Fellow swimmers, did you see the goggles everyone was wearing at the trials or caps for that matter?  My final college swim meet took place a little over 10 years ago and obviously things have changed!  I kept saying, "look at those goggles!" and "What is up with those caps?"  Kent immediately looked up the goggles to find out that they start at $60 and go up to $100!!!!  Wow!  That is CRAZY!  I think I used to pay about $8 for goggles but they weren't as cool or fancy or as aerodynamic as these new ones.  The swim caps also looked pretty crazy to me.  I noticed two things about them.  1. They came down over the swimmers ears and 2.  The swimmers were actually wearing two caps, the outer thick, shiny one and the smaller one that covered their hair.  Interesting!

Well, this is a random post but I am a swimmer at heart and LOVE the sport.  Here's to watching Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte battle it out all week and next month in London.  Go Lochte!  I think it's your turn this time around!
