This World is NOT My Home!

Wow!  Today is a hard day, friends!  My heart just overflows with sadness as I try to process the news of 26 people dying a senseless death in Connecticut!  Seriously!  What would cause someone to do something like that?! How can a twenty year old male walk into a school of ALL PLACES and point a gun at innocent 5-10 year old CHILDREN and pull the trigger?!  I really don't understand nor can I fathom what the families are going through right now.  It is Christmas and this community gets to spend the days leading up to Christmas burying their children and some of the staff of their elementary school.     

My brother told me about a tweet from Mark Driscoll, pastor at Mars Hill in Seattle, Washington, and it really is so true.

"No matter who we elect, what laws we pass, what meds we take, there will never be perfect peace until the Prince of Peace returns."

We will never know true peace until He returns!  We cannot fix ourselves or save ourselves.  We are depraved, sinful and a hurting people in need of a Savior.  What happened today doesn't surprise God.  He knows the evil in the hearts of men but He offers a solution....His Son whom He sent as a baby to be born in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago.  

I am reminded of some lyrics from one of my favorite Christmas songs sung by Casting Crowns, it is a quote from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  You can watch the video here.

"And in despair I bowed my head:

"There is no peace on earth," I said,

"For hate is strong and mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,

With peace on earth, good will to men."

And so today I am praising God that this world is not my home!  I am just passing through.  I pray that He will return very soon and take us all home to our eternal home in heaven with Him!
